The architect of Re-Union Movement and founder of Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Servant of God Arch Bishop the Most. Rev. Mar Ivanios, was well aware of the very pathetic conditions of the vast majority of the people especially who were living in the South Travancore provinces. His Excellency was all more determined for the upliftment of these destitutes by eradicating illiteracy providing quality education to the marginalised, disadvantaged and the neglected.
The Re-Union Movement started the work of evangelisation looking for new pastures. South Travancore provinces from Trivandrum to Marthandam seemed to be conducive places to sow the seeds of Gospel. The dedicated servants of God came down to this poverty- stricken areas of South Travancore and voluntarily initiated the works of serving the people. They started new missions among the destitutes, marginalized and the neglected. They found that illiteracy is the major cause of these disadvantaged people, they started schools to provide quality education under the guidance and administration of the Arch Diocese of Trivandrum. A Corporate body to manage the Schools has been established under the spiritual leadership of Arch Bishop Mar Ivanios.
After the Independence, more schools were started in the Tamil speaking provinces of Arch Diocese, of Trivandram. Christ the King Cathedral Marthandam has become the centre of all spiritual and educational activities of South Travancore Malankara Catholic Church.
The establishment of new Churches and mission centers, saw the establishment of new schools also. The post independent era gave good opportunities to upgrade the schools. The re-organisation of states on the basis of Languages made the Tamil speaking areas to join with Tamil Nadu State. Accordingly, a separate Correspondent to manage the Malankara Syrian Catholic Schools in Kannyakumari District was established. It gave a new spirit and life to the school administration. New rules and regulations were framed for various appointments and establishment of new schools.
The year 1984 saw the dawn of new era as His Excellency Bishop Lawrence Mar Ephraem came to Marthandam as a good shephered to look after the welfare of all the people irrespective of caste or creed. He took extra pains to re-regulate the Schools. Education Board was established. Administration has become more transparent and democratic. After the sudden demise of Bishop Lawrence Mar Ephraem the reigns of the Marthandam was taken over by Most Rev. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom. He Excellecy took new ventures like constructing new buildings for the schools. Now the General Manager is Most Rev. Vincent Mar Paulos. The Diocese is scaling heights under his able leadership. He takes special interest to give value based education in all our institutions.
